Hey everyone, So one of my new tanks is going to be dedicated to either a single male Gold Saum or a possible pair if I can manage to find an established pair.. I also wanted to explore different tankmate options but I know that with 65 gallons and the overall gt aggression this is going to be quite a challenge, I have read different views on setting up terror tanks and unfortunately I haven't been able to find much information on tankmates. If there isn't any options at all I might go for a single species tank and possibly just stick to a trio or pairs also it's worth mentioning that I will likely have to upgrade the tank somewhere down the line in case the male surpasses the estimated growth rate :)

Even for single species tank , 65 gallon does sound on a smaller size. If you havent bought the tank yet just go for 100 G for the safer side .

I wish I could buy a larger one however I'm working with old converted garage space only and unfortunately I don't think I could fit it in :(

They are a super tough one to keep, with a very small success rate of mixing them with other fish, I don't really fancy the chances of a pair working long term. Most of the ones I've seen on this forum or others typically end up as a wet pet in a tank about this size, sometimes a 75.

If its a really big itch to scratch in keeping them then go ahead but if you are remotely on the fence about them, I'd go for something else.

Hmm I really am stuck as I've always looked at gold saums and struggled to resist with not buying them.. If I were to buy one I'd probably just keep the one male in a 65 and call that tank finished as I'm realising more and more that most people who actually do keep them with other fish, really seem to know what they are doing about the brute aggression from the terror. Thank you for you're advice Wills, I'll do more research before I make my final decision on them!
