Sounds like green spot algae.

how did i get it??? and best way of geting rid of it

Too much light, too warm in the tank.
If it's a planted tank, also low phosphates and low CO2.

low phosphates and low CO2.......... how do i get some in the tank again ????

Is it a planted tank? If not, then cut down on light intensity and light duration. Excessive light is one of the reasons for all types of algae.

not got any plants i did have !! will get some more and i have turned the light off now lights been off for 3 days used to be on for 5 hours every day

Does the tank get direct light from a window?

yes only a bit we have blinds  and we are in the uk so only a bit of sun ;)  ,and we had 2 difrent lights in the lid

Turn down the intensity if you can. Remove the reflectors or switch off one tube altogether if possible.

I mean you need less light over the tank than what you have now. How you can achieve that depends on your light fixture. Fluorescent lights come in tubes and have reflectors on top. If you've got two light tubes, maybe you can remove one of them.  Light duration is a different thing and you already have it at 5 hrs.

throw a pleco if its a 55G or bigger if not throw in some ottos (1 per 10 gallon)

ottos means otocinclus, small algae eating catfish you can get at any pet store.
