I saw a tank full of these guys the other day and fell in love. I've always been a sucker for puffers, but these were finally some fat and happy ones - the only ones I've seen around here are skinny and sick. Anyways, I'm curious, what is the minimum size tank for just one? I realize they get rather large and need brackish water, but I'm curious on tank size.

What are some other more readily available puffers that could stay in a pretty small tank? (10 or smaller) I know about dwarfs and south american, anything else? I'd love to have an SA or two, but can't find any here.

There are three fish that are comonly refered to as GSPs (one is FW one is BW and the third is LBW) Does its body taper to the tail or does it taper down and then have a tail sticking out? does it have spines running backwards on its belly?

in any case these three need at least 30 gallons to be happy.

Look up Xenopterus naritus AKA Bronze Puffer I'm relatively sure that they can be happy in 15 gallons

P.S. Your uniquely set up for puffer all you need to do is start afew snail infestations and you have free food for life and it lowers nitrate levles in your infested tanks.

Try searching the guy in the picture tetroadon fluviatilis ,
and tetraodon Schoutedeni , we kept this one in hard fresh water with ph about 7.8 he did well , he thrived .He liked to eat green peas once in a while , chewed them right up . I think I read it came from the congo river in Africa near some basin or a pool can't remember , I remember it ate peas tho . like someone mentioned there are three fish[ at least ] that go by the name green spotted puffers , I don't know what the 3rd is called. Different locations at least 1 from asia , at least 1 from africa , different water qualities fresh ,brackish , I had then and still have now many , many maylayan trumpet snails . GOOD LUCK !!

Tetradon fluviatilis comes from souteast Asia, India and the Philippines.

The one that comes from the pool in Africa is the 'Stanley Pool Puffer' Tetraodon schoutedeni which does look a little similar but has a maximum size of 10cm compared to T. fluviatilis's maximum size of 17cm.

They all sound wonderful, and I still wish I could get one (or two!), but I just can't afford to get a large tank, not to mention I don't have any room for one! Just give me awhile, I'll have freshmike complaining about having too many puffers before long... :hey:
