Green puffer fish

Also, please read the community link in my sig, it is no just for SAPs which is the mian one it mentions, it works for all puffers, just ignore the whole plecs thing, because they cannot go into brackish water anyway!

Hi S

I used to have a brackish Tank with a couple of GSP in and they were brilliant, I really liked them
I have quiet a strange assortment of fish in the tank with them some Brackish and others I slowly acclimitized over in a quarintine tank over a period of 6 weeks

They were:
Green Spooted Scat
Mono Angel
Archer Fish
Bumblee Goby

Some of the Non Brackish Fish that I Acclimitised:
Freshwater Angel
Keyhole Chillid
Kribs

I got rid of most of the true bracks, but still have the :

Freshwater Angel
Keyhole
Kribs
Archer
Mono

In a brackish tank, have had these now with no deaths of fighting for 2 1/2 Years, the main success is the Freahwater Angel, when we bought here (cost £ 1.25) she was the size of a 50p pce (about a Dine) and she is no larger than my hand and is a beauty.

Saying that I would be careful adding any fish with sweeping fins like an Angel as they can become fair game to the puffers

I'm wondering, what was the SG of that tank? Did you use marine salt? How large was the tank?

Many of those fish (especially the puffers), are extremely long-lived. What happened to all of them after 2 1/2 years?

Kribensis are naturally found in brackish areas in the wild but i would never recomend acclimatising angel fish or keyhole Cichlids to brackish, both these species come from habitats where the water has no measurable mineral content and so have not evolved to have the same osmosis function that fish that live in more saline conditions have. Over time the minerals present in sea water will build up on the kidneys and eventually lead to kidney failure, this may take a number of years but it will happen.

Actually, angelfish come from conditions the exact opposite of BW--soft, acidic water.

Unfortuinatley this was back when I took my LFS word for most thing one being that a Angel (If acclimitised over time would survive in a brac tank),

the puffers and most of the other brac's I have given away and down sized, I now have 3 smaller tanks (25g each) 1 Brackish & 2 Fresh (well the wife is supposed to look after them), not including my marine tanks

I'm still curious how much marine salt you were/are using, to make your tank/s BW?

HI PP

The sg level at the mo is 1.007

My main brac tank has now been broken down for over a year and the livestock now have there own tanks catered to there own needs.

After my inital discussion with my LSF regarding the Angles compatability in and low salt enviroment of which I was told it was suitable, I even went to the point of asking at another store and was told that the Angel would be fine in the tank.

It is only when I bumped into an old friend who unbennonst to me had been keeping Bracs for years that he told me that both shops were talking nonsense.
