hi , i am not at all new to the hobby but just recently i am getting these unsightly green specks of algae all over the glass at the front of the tank, my tank is always kept clean and the water is always crystal clear. i need to clean these feckers off at least 1-2 times a week ....and believe me it takes some scrubbing to get rid of them......is there anthing i can do to limit this...?????

please help

Limit algae by limiting Ammonia....

Ammonia sources that can 'cause' algae are:

Planted tanks that have had something change (lights / ferts / CO2 etc)
Dead leaves rotting down giving off ammonia
Uneaten fish food - again rotting down giving off ammonia
Change in filter / cycling / crash / minicycle - this can even mean the addition of new fish
Stagnancy in the tank (not enogh circulation & hence inadequate filtering resulting in ammonia).

Andy

PS, even if your test kit reads zero ammonia, the amounts I'm taking about won't necessarily register...
