I believe this belongs in the hardware section so here goes, i went out today and got some gravel from my Garden center where i work, now this is what it is...

Alpine Gravel for decorative uses, 2-5mm...

Now i have seen this stuff used in Aquariums, but i wanted to know whether it will be suitable or not for fish in your opinion?

;)

As far as i know its found on river beds and used to decorate the top layer of potplants. If you wanted to use this i suggest you boil it. Also you would have to rinse this very well i mean like 7 times or so cause it will make your water cloudy/dirty. I use natural aquarium gravel that is not coated and i had to wash mine several times because it made the water in my aquarium cloudy/dirty

HTH

I dont use gravel I prefer to use sand it looks nicer.

I could get colour sand, but it cost alot but would look nice in the Aquarium, but i have been rising the gravel and yes it is very dirty, i will try boiling a selected amount because there is too much to boil all of it at once, but thanks for the advice
