USA,
i want new gravel, a diffrent color, so sould i just chnge it or do it slowly because of the bacteria?

Slowly.

It'd be hard, but you could probably take out a fraction of the gravel and add a partition. Then continue adding every other week or so until you change all of it.

Doing it slowly is definitely the best way to go for the bacteria but all the intrusion of doing this activity many times will stress the fish but may also cause a mini cycle or ammonia spike. So its up to you. I used to do it the slow way but have found that getting it done and over with is as good or better for the fish in the long run. HTH :)

the amonia is alawy high though, i do use detoxify though, does that work?

No, it won't.

You have to stop doing anything to your tank. You have to let it cycle and lose all ammonia and nitrites. Then and only then can you make major changes to your tank.

i havent had it checked in 2 weeks though, i got a new tank, its ben cycling for 1.5 weeks now, though, i guess ill put them in that 1.

Do you already have fish or will get them? If you already have them, well don't strewss them out too much.

:/

You should try returning them to the lfs until you cycle the fish.

It's better that way because the fish don't die and you don't lose any money.

what are the levels in the new tank. if it's only been cycling for 1.5 weeks I doubt that it has gone through both the ammonia and nitrite spike by now. You really should read the pinned topic above title avoiding new tank syndrome.

i have 3 tanks, one is already cyled, so are all the others. ive done this before, i have done a fish cycle w/a goldfish before, and its still alive 1 yr. later, and ive had the fish for 3 months now, y would i return them??? . the fish are in one of my old tanks, the good one now, so im not returning them because the water in 1 tank is good and im still setting up the new 1. the tank that has high amonia was cycling for 2 months now, i used amo lock because someone said it was good, but it does give u false readings, so it minght be low. and if the 1.5 weeks one isnt good, ill keep them in the other 1, it has a goldfish in it though.
