I got a Penn plax air vacc that works with my pump.It just didn't seem like it collected much debris.Granted my tank is pretty new but with the fantail and koi, I thought it would need a cleaning(The koi was moved to a pond yesterday). Is it possible that it needs a larger pump than the small 10-15g size I have?Maybe the tank just isn't as dirty as I thought

Sorry if it's a dumb question but I'm new to this and never vacced gravel before.

Thanks,

Koda

when you use the vac, does it also suck up some of the gravel a bit? If it does then there is enough power to use. IF you arent getting any debris then you may be right and it is still a new tank. Try it again in a week or so and see what happens. Also try it on something else. Get a bucket with a little dirt or so and see what happens.

It doesn't seem to stir up the gravel much...just makes bubbles and moves water.Maybe the small army of ghost shrimp gets most of the leftovers. They are pretty bold at feeding time. The water is clear and only my nitrite reading is a tad high.Testing it on some dirt sounds like a good idea.Of course, I may eventually try a larger pump since I will need one when I get my dream tank ;)

BTW...what's the fish in your avatar. It's the only pic I've seen that looks exactly like the molly I got my kiddo.Thanks...
