Hi,

As some of you will have already read, I am hopefully geting a Juwel Rekord setup to start my first tank. However, the bloke in my LFS has suggested that I put a gravel plate in the bottom, then put the gravel over it.

What does this thing do? And how will it benefit me?

For those that are unsure what it is, its like a piece of bumpy plastic that sits under the gravel.

Regards

Adam

depending on what it looked like it may increase the surface area for bacterial growth in the gravel, allow better water flow through the gravel, Emmm spread the weight of the gravel ?

Anyone got one of these

It will stop digging fish from uncovering the bottom, but it will be more of a pain to vac the gravel with one in so i would give it a miss. They also come in handy if you are putting large rocks in the tanks as they spread the pressure, stopping the tank bottom from cracking. Unless you are having cichlids i wouldn't bother with one.

I have a Rekord and have never used a gravel plate. I have changed from gravel to sand as I found it easier to maintain and my plants love it.
