Gravel Or Sand?

I have gravel, but I think sand looks better but is much harder to maintain.

Sand wins hands down. It looks much better IMO and it is much better for bottom feeders. I switched to sand a few months ago and am very glad I did!

Im thinking whether or not to switch to sand. I have read many complaints about cleaning the sand and plants not able to stay in the sand. Doesent it also look like a mess with all the fish 'poop'

Not if you clean it. Once you get the knack of getting the poop but not the sand, it is really easier. In fact I keep my sand cleaner than I could keep my gravel.

yea actually i was thinking about doing that but I am not sure how it would look like.

I voted sand,i've had both and i prefer sand now.

The only problem of having mixed is unless separate the 2 the sand will eventually work through the gravel.

I use a sustrate that suits the biotype of the aquarium.... Cichlids-large gravel, Amazonian-sand.

Cool, I think I might change to sand, maybe with a little corner of gravel. Not sure yet, but from the photos I have seen of sand the aquarium looks so much cooler!
