Gravel Looks Funny Colour

Hi All

i filled my tank up for the first time last night with water, all thats in my tank is black gravel ( has een used before in another tank)

after i filled it the black gravel looked like it had a greeny browny colour to it - is this algae or some sort of growth???

it looked black when it was dry but changed when wet

I have the same problem, my black gravel at the bottom of the tank is still jet black but the top layer (1 inch) is covered in algae and scum. Im assuming its an easy thing to clean but until it gets out of hand i think ill leave it.

If you only put the gravel in last night i doubt it's any sort of algae.

Probably just looks different when wet and under direct light.
