I have a thread on the freshwater section.
Just upgraded my tank to a 60 litre & have 6 platys.
I have a gravel substrate, small & non sharp.
I like the look of cories, but with my substrate, could I have some?

I would only ever keep cories on a sand substrate TBH.

You can keep corydoras on a gravel substrate, but it's not what their natural habitat is. They come from river beds with sand bottoms, and to feed they spend their time snuffling the sand through their mouths, keeping the yummy stuff and shooting the sand back out their gills. They can't do that with gravel.

That's what I thought & I wouldn't want to keep them if the environment wasn't suitable
Thanks guys, back to the drawing board

When I first kept them I had gravel in my tank. They were fine with it and I kept it nice and clean and never experienced any issues. But, for asthetic reasons I changed to sand around 6 months later and it was like I had a new species of fish. They were more active and loved digging around. Go for sand :good:
