Having just got out of hospital after getting septicemia :-( :-( I am now a bit paranoid about anything that might make me ill, introduce infection etc and need advice on how to start my gravel cleaner. Supposedly if you pump it up and down in the water it starts but this usually just upsets the fish and I managed to splash water everywhere. At the moment I do NOT want to risk sooking the end of the pipe as I am still too scared I catch something else so has anybody any suggestions or know of a product I can get that will do the job for me.

Thanks in advance.

put the vac and all the pipe under the water and work all the air out of it. then put your finger over the end of the hose, then lift it out of the tank making sure the vac stays under water then drop it into the bucket....

instead of sucking the water out the water is alread in the hose then gravity takes over....

works well for me
