I'm not a betting person, but seen the status messages coming though thick and fast on a well known social networking site about everyone choosing this horse or that horse.

I decided to have a look at the paper to see who was who and what was what. I know nothing about horse racing but tony mccoy who won it last year is from a few miles away from me so I'd have picked whoever he was riding.

Then, what did I see but "oscar time"
Had to stick a few pound on. Not bad odds either.

Our wee girls come 3rd. Our boys didn't win. I'm not sure if my girlfriend won or not as I don't know what horse she had. She's out shopping with her ma.

Yeah I just heard that on the TV coverage a terrible shame

you could see one covered up on the floor when they diverted the horses from one of the fences
a terrible shame

as daft as it sounds though if they didn;t race they wouldn;t exist. arent they a human developed horse specifically for racing. I remember reading that they lack brain but make up for that in muscle and athleticism

I put £20 on and got £52 back. Not bad, my old man is well into his racing and always gives me good National tips.

Awful shame for the horses.

I'm really quite shocked by it. It never occurred to me that a horse could die from racing.

Sorry as a horsey enthusiast i have to add this.!

TB's (thoroughhbred or racehorses) are actually a very intelligent breed of horse. They can make excellent second ponies, well, horses for young adults because they are one of the cleverer breeds and are quick to leanr, making them wonderful for Pony Club activities and furthering a young person onto higher levles of equitation.
The only reason people think they are all muscle and no brain is because they never get shown doing anything but running!

Also the two horses that died were Ornais and Dooneys Gate, Dooney's Gate being a possible placer.
