Had a successfully spawn but afterward the male lost interest and the female who had done all the work took over he chased her away but just let the eggs fall and she sneaked in and put them back in the nest she is now guarding them and tending the nest as he should have done, anyone else let this happen or should i take her out as well she is even blowing a nest to keep it together and picking up falling eggs and putting them back doing a good job but i have never had this before and will she be OK ........... i know my wife was with my two.....

:D its rare that i ever hear of the female doing anything other than getting under the cup and dropping eggs, but i know another guy here had a pair of fish that spawned and rather than nipping and chaseing they accually worked together building the nest and careing for the eggs. y cant all spawns be that way  i guess when the male desides hes not doing it, the female has to take charge of the situation ;)

He's such a deadbeat dad!

If the female's doing fine, I'd leave her to it. I had one similar. The male wasn't picking up the eggs, so the female did and placed them in the nest. Except then he attacked her for it, chased her off, and STILL wouldn't pick up the eggs.

What can I say but

GIRL POWER!! :flex: :*

Hope she does ok with the nest and a big slap for dad for not helping :grr:

He wouldnt have been any good on the golden shot(showing age) a tv programmee for all in US as i dont think any eggs were fertilized he missed the target ............   try again next month see if he has learnt anything..........

Take it back for him there are fry in the nest............

Aww congrats on the fry. Is the female ok with them now they are wriggling around?

My MG spawned today after I took your and Yeevia's advice and took out most of the plants she kept hiding behind. He chased her away after 3 hours even though she was still full of eggs, but neither of them were really bothered about picking up the eggs.

The female is out and releasing the rest of the eggs on her own and the male has a few bubbles under the cup and some eggs, but he mouths them and then just spits them anywhere! they're floating all over the place as well as lots on the floor.

What is it with these Betta males

A tense 2 day wait for me
