My Java Fern seems to be dying. There are brown clumpy spots growing on it, like tiny hair balls. Very strange and the keaves are falling off. This happened before and I got rid using anti hair algae formula, but do not like using this as it upsets some of the fish.

Any ideas what this is and how to get rid of it. I have a fully planted tank but it is only affecting this plant which is attached to bogwood.

Also how does people get Java Moss to be so green? Mine is green and brown, but I see other only have a lush green spread. I have more than ample lighting with two large strips plus a UV one.#

The other thing is, does everyone clean the poo from their tank every week, isn't there a shrimp, or fish that can get rid of this.

Hmm, help and advice needed.

From what I gather, java moss goes through a bit of an adjustment period after we put it in our tanks. It will look really crappy until it gets going. The brown spots that you are seeing sound like your fern is putting out plantlets.

I agree with nosoup4you, Sounds like plantlets and nothing to worry about (you can stop treating for hair algae)
