So I called ahead to the lfs to find out what type of Gouramis they carry so I can do some research I was told: "I dont have them all memorised". She couldnt be bothered to look for me? haha So anyone suggest a gouramis and what to look for before I charge in blind? TIA for doing the lfs job

What tank and fish do you plan on putting them in/with? Sounds like you need a new lfs, rude and unhelpful.

Jon

I have a 10 gallon cycled and empty and a 25 gallon that will be cycled any day now. It has a yellow lab and a small pleco.

I told that lady i would just shop elsewhere the only issue is they are the most convenient lfs or I wouldnt even be going there =[

OK, i wouldnt really recomend that you put any in with the Yellow lab. He may become a little feisty. If you plan to use the other tank you could house a pair. But not too many. How about a pair of Dwarfs?

A pair of dwarf gouramis would be cool in the 10 gallon and could stay there forever.

You can also try a pair of croaking gourami. They get about 2.5-3 inches and they can make a croaking sound. :p

Or a couple of sparkling gourami

Thanks for the help guys! =] Makes ya wonder what these people think workin in a pet store is going to be. If you answer a phone expect to be asked about pets ;)

By sparkling do you mean "Pearl" or "Mosiac". (sp?) Because if you do, i think they might be a little too big for a small ten gallon. Try and get a pair when you choose your fish. This way you wont get aggression if you accedently choose two males.

Ok sounds good for the 10 gallon. Any suggestions for the 25 gallon? It has 1 pleco and a yellow lab. There were two other labs with her but I lost them to my wifes drive by over feeding ;(. What kind of options do i have to go in with her? Am I limited by her aggression? Incidentally the lfs in question is the same one that sold me 3 electric yellow and a pleco in one purchase for the 10 gallon tank. Knowledgeable bunch hey? TIA

I could try I spose but we have seen how useful THEY are ;)
Yea, but if you tell them you want to order them they will be making a sale which obviously is the only thing that matters now-a-days. :/

Hi BigFishSmallPond :)

Honey gouramis are small and would be a good choice too.

As for the dwarf gouramis, if you live in the US, you will have a hard time finding any females to make a pair. Two males may or may not get along, so I would recommend only keeping one, like you woud a betta. They do just fine alone. :D

You might also add a small school of corys for the bottom of the tank. Three or 4 would fit if you only get one dwarf gourami. They seem to get along well with gouramis too.
