Gouramis

Hello all.

I just finsh cyceling my 55 gallon tank and I want to add some Gouramis as my center piece so to speak. I have read that you should have a 1 male to 2 female ratio.

My question is could I have 1 male and 3 or 4 females? or just 4 or 5 females?

I'm also going to be adding 5 or 6 Cory cats. I wondeing what would be some other good fish to add with the Gouramis? I was thinking maybe a 10 or 12 tetera's? Don't know still plaing the other fish.

I was to try and get some Gouramis tomorrow. Thanks for reading.

It's sounds like you're really planning on really overstocking your tank
Remember that some species of gouramis can get pretty large(the kissing gourami can get to 8", for example) while the largest cory cat only gets to about 3 1/2", I think. Before you decide on what fish you want and how many, pick out the species you like and research them to make sure you don't overcrowd! Congrats on your new tank, btw.

12 to 18" for the Corys
18 to 24 for the teters
that leaves me between 13 and 25" for the Gouramis

Most get between 3 and 4" so I could have 3 or 4 without much of a problem.

If I went with the Dwarf's I could have bwtweeb 6 and 12, now I would add 12, but the 1 inch per gallon rule. I'm sure in my 55 gallon tank I could easyly do 60" of fish, but more than likely would do closer to 50" of fish.

My main question was could 1 male and 3 or 4 females get along in a 55 gallon tank. All I've ever heard was 1 male to 2 femals and 2 males in the same tank could fight to the death.

The number of other fish could drop, but I really want to get 4 or 5 Gouramis as my center peice.
