Gouramis

It's been suggested to me that a pair of gouramis would make a nice addition to my currently cycling 20g, which will have blue tetras, guppies, and cories dwelling there also.
Question: Do gouramis prefer to be kept in pairs? If so, should it be a female/female pair, female/male pair, etc. Or are they perfectly happy being the only gourami?

It depends on the gourami, as there are many species of them and they all vary a lot in temperment, it also depends on how many gallons your tank is and how many fish you have- check out this link for gourami types;
