Hi all
I hope someone can help. I have a major problem with my gouramis-they all seem to end up with a disease whereby they have little sores all over them. i have used internal bacteria no 9 and have followed the insructions very carefully and have just completed my water change aftr the seven days but they dont seem to be getting any better it doesnt seem to affect all just some. Any suggestion??All my other fish seem ok all though i have just noticed that my pink kissing gourami looks to have bright red lips on one side is the same as the other gouramis disease?
THANKS

the temp of my tank is running at approx 80 my water is fine also in the tank are two cat fish,5 glass cat fish and one plec they are all fine though. when this disease starts it is only one fish at a time that gets it.

This has been happening quite often I'm afraid. Everytime it's the same symptoms on gouramis. I've been reading up on it a lot the last couple of days just because it's happening so often. I believe it's some kind of strain, but which is the question.

As far as parasites go Chilodonella pretty much fits the description.

As does Argulus

Skin Flukes too, which makes it extremely hard to diagnose. The lesions will become vulnerable to a bacterial infection because the fish is stressed.

Then there's A.Invadans (scroll down a bit towards the bottom to read about the diagnosis) to me it seems as though this is the most likely culprit. I've never heard of the med RALLY though, perhaps Kanacyn with an anti-bacterial med will do.

Hi ya suebob1,

I had exactly the same thing.... started with intense flicking, then to sores, fungus, looked like one big ulcerated.... il stop

I lost my Yellow Male Gourami, but if you catch this quick i feel you could effectively treat it. My tank is going thru a course of Sterazin. Flicking has reduced and all is ok for now... taking each day as it comes.
I am also awaiting the delivery of a UV Steriliser, which will be installed after the course of meds.

Below i have gone into detail of what started to happen... how i did, did not combat this strange parasitic disease.....

Start phase 1
*Noticed intenseive flicking of the Yellow and Blue Females on objects in the tank, no sign of visible stress.

*Monitored this and noticed a sore on the Blue Females head, fungus started to set in. Yellow female body looked sore also.

*QT'd all 3 Gouramis (Yellow male showing no signs of stress though) and treated with Methylene Blue, Melafix and Aquarium salt at 0.9%. The course of this cocktail ran for 7 days. Fish were QT'd for 14 days.

*Introduced Yellow Gouramis back into main tank. They looked healthy and the best they had in ages.

*Introduced the Blue female 4 days after, didnt want to send the tank into a mini-cycle. Blue female looked great also.

Start Phase 2

* 2 days after Blue female was re-introduced, the Yellow Male was going mental, scratching on ANYTHING (thermometers, inlet pipes, rocks, the lot) like a maniac. No visible signs and he looked in peak condition :S

*8 hours later the Gourami was covered, head to foot in sores. Fungus set into the sores. I other 2 gouramis looked ok, although a little concerned for ther friend.

*Bought and introduced 1st dose of Sterazin Parasiticide into main tank. Gave it a chance to kick in.

*Next day Yellow Gourami got worse. We QT'd him again, with the same cocktail of meds that seemed to work the first time.
He died 5 hours later.

*Tank is calming down, flicking reduced. To-date on 3rd day of Sterazin treatment.

Sorry i went into so much detail.

The healthiest fish, who was only QT'd as a security measure, died. He was beuatiful and i am still choked.

I hope this chain of events has helped. Basically, i would QT the worst effected ones and treat the sores, hope they heal.
If it is early enough use an parasiticide on the others...

Wuvmybetta has helped me a great deal in trying to locate the cause of this disease. Those articles are gold dust for me - thanks Wuv

HTH and good luck......
