We have a fairly new 10 gal. tank (3 months) and went through cycling it with danios. We seem to have the biological filter working properly and ammonia and nitrites have been at 0 for at least 6 weeks. Nitrates are minimal. We've slowly been adding a few fish. Right now we have 2 zebra danios, 1 dwarf blue gourami, 1 oto, and 1 african dwarf frog. We had 3 danios but one died a little over a week ago, no idea why. Everyone seems to get along okay. The gourami is our newest fish, less than a week and he has developed a red sore near his mouth. Where can I go to find out what this might be? Is there a great website with this kind of info? Any ideas for treating a sore?

Thanks,
Yvonne

The sore on the gourami head has been quite frequent lately. It seems that they're catching it in transit from shop to shop. At first I was leaning towards TB,which lead me to A.Invadans aka epizoodic ulcerative syndrome. A parasitic fungus that works it's way from the inside muscle.

I'm not very familiar with otc meds or with what is available in your area. You'll need a hefty antibiotic combined with a parasite and fungal treatment. The link mentions a few suggested meds. I'd treat him seperately in a spare tank. You can get another 10 gallon for 8.00 or so. It's worth it. You'll also need some source of filtration in it.

Welcome to the board. I wish the best to you and your fish.
