I have two gourami and one keeps chasing the other one until s/he is pinned in the corner ,

I have noticed tail fins are getting abit raggid.
I have moved the bully into a breeding tank for the time being .

The bullied gourami normally sits at the bottom of the tank or hides when the bully is about .
but now the bully is contained, s/he seems to be abit more swimmy.

Am i doing right and how long does the bully stay locked up ???

HELP and real beginner

What kind of Gourami do you have?

Do you have plants or decor in the tank? In other words is there places for the one to hide?

Do you know if you have two males, two females or a pair?

If you don't know what kind they are or if you have males or females I suggest getting a picture of them and showing us so we can help you better.

Don't put the bully back in the tank until you get to the bottom of the issue, most fish can cause serious damage when behaving aggressively....
TBH whatever your set up is i'd return the gourami, i'm currently lumbered with 2 aggressive fish, tried sin binning one as you have, useless, didn't calm him down. Got to decide whether to buy a couple more 7 gals or return them to a LFS.....

Gourami are very territorial, I haven't seen any females for sale in a very long time. They aren't as colorful as the males and the fins are a little more rounded. When I add any type of fish to a tank that has a fish that is territorial I will move around the plants and rocks especially around their territory. There is still aggression, once to the point of a fish jumping out of a tank. They may never beable to be in the same tank.

I had 2 opaline gouramis in a 20 gallon (never knew better at the time) and i had the same problem and one of the gouramis ended up dying as a result of the torture. I would agree witht he others and keep them seperated as the fin nipping was the first step.. then it got worse and resulted in death.

i use to have this problem with my dwarfs. the fin ripped and all so i separated them. i took the currently dominant one out. and after a week or so back in. and then after a day or two, i take out the one dominant at that point in time. doing the same a few times. and now they're okay with each other

i think there blue Gourami ( i dunno )

i believe ther both males ,

they were brought at the same time and from the same tank , I had 3 gourami but they bullied the littlest one to death.
now the bully has turned on the other one !

I see from your pics you have the blue/opaline gourami which is notorious for bulling not only other gourami species but fellow tank mates as well once mature. My advice is to segregate to a species tank or go for one of the less robust species of gourami.

My gourami's were the first fishy i had (lol)

The gourami doesnt bully my catfish or my other little fish ! ( i dont know there names ) The little fish in the picture background (above)

so do i release my bully ???

I wouldnt release ur bully if it is avoidable because when i tried that it resulted in death. They are beautiful fish and my dominant one is looking better and bigger everyday,, but he is aggressive... pushes black sharks around... so no i would try and set up another tank or something and display them in 2 seperate tanks.

Set up another tank. Letting him loose again would just hurt the other one, and keeping him in the breeder (if it's the one he's in in the pic) would just be too cramped for him. I'm pretty sure blue gouramis are agressive, so it would be better to set up his own tank.
BTW, the other little fish are harlequin rasboras from what I can see.

does anyone want him ?

i cant set up another tank (due to no space in the flat )
if i release him , might he have leant his lesson ?

My Dwarf Gourami seems to have bullied my Platy to death. Thought the Platy was diseased or something but it turns out it was the Gourami picking on him. He never stops looking for food aswell
