:- I got my non-cracked replacement today!!! :D I got some gravel and 3 plants in there right now and im attempting the fishless cycle with fish food. Any ideas of how to speed up the cycle. Also there are bubble all over the glass is that ok? Ill post some pics later when i get my friends digital! :-

Thats great to hear, Fishnewbie! Did you decide what item your going to get for free yet? Can't you use urine or pure amonia to make it go a little quicker? Good Luck!
Ron

No way really to speed up the cycle. Just have to wait for the bacteira to do it's thing. :)

You could speed it up a bit by adding ammonia per the directions of AA's sig/pinned article but it's just a waiting game.

Bubbles are normal so no worries.

Oh ya, don't forget to change your sig again! Now where have I heard that before?

P.S. Urine contains amonia so, yes it does.

Ok im really thinking of using urine in my tank. Anyone have any ideas of the problems with this?

Oh yeah and i got the 2 hornwarts free. They were only like 1.50 each so they didnt lose to much money.

Congratulations!!!!! Great to hear you are up and running again!

Yeah im really excited fresh. In my opinion my tank looks great and i hope to add fish by the weekend if th cycle is done. :D

I've done a bit of research on the subject of using urine in tanks as an ammonia source. The actual information surprises some people - urine contains a very small, only trace amounts sometimes, of ammonia, so it's really not a proper source. If you want to do a fishless cycle, go to your hardware store and buy a jug of pure ammonia - it's not expensive, and it'll work a heck of a lot better than urine.

JULIE!!!! That's gross!!!! Peeing in your fish tanks! Bad Girl!

Pure ammonia can be practically impossible to get hold of in UK. Fresh urine is very low in ammonia but in warm conditions the urea in it degrades and produces ammonia in quite large quantities (I have kids and I've had to change diapers and I can assure you the ammonia is there in chokingly large quantities). Of course, the urine method of cycling tanks pre-dates the newer method of fishless cycling.

Incidently, can I just mention that I didn't write the Fishless Cycling articles that I link to in my New Tank article? I don't want to take credit for someone else's work!
