Hey everyone,

I went to the lfs yesterday and they had 10 girls. I couldn't choose so I got them all. They were extremely stressed out so I couldn't tell what colours they were. I thought I had gotten 3 cambodian girls, but it turns out that they are actually orange. I have one that is white with irridescent blue fins. The others are red, blue and brown. I went to another lfs after that and saw a boy I couldn't pass up. He is orange in the body, but only the top, his fins and his belly are white with irridescent blue streaks. I am soooooo lucky. I am going to take some pics when I get some batteries so I can show them to you.

I think I have too many females in my tank, there are 17 in my 20g. They aren't fighting as much as displaying for eachother, and there are no nipped fins, yet. I am watching very closely. The tank is heavily planted with fake plants and there are 4 terra cotta pots for caves and one big cave structure. If I see there is a problem, I may put some of the girls in my 55g. I am not sure about that though cause I have a gourami in there and he is quite large and may be a bit aggressive. I could also get a bigger tank. The females are really small still, maybe only 1" or so. I am willing to upgrade to a 40G if I have to.

Just keep an eye on them for now, like you said. A 30g would be perfect, I think.

Watch how their colors change! I love that. Any female I have ever had has changed dramatically colorwise within a month. You will have some beautiful girls :D It was a nice thing, what you did.

I probably wouldn't have bought all of them if the price wasn't right. This store sells all their bettas for $1.99 (that is Canadian dollars). So the 10 girls only cost me $20. Most stores here sell their bettas for $4.99 each. The last time I got girls I got them buy one get 2 free, so I paid $20 for the 10 at the time. I lost 3 to columnaris, but the other 7 survived. I took all the current residents out of the tank last night, rearranged everything, and then introduced all the girls at once. It was amazing because I had one girl who was obviously on the bottom of the totem pole so to speak, she was always showing stress lines. Last night she decided to take over and is now a beautiful dark purple. I knew she was purple before, but I could never see her colours.

While out today I got some batteries for my camera. I got a couple of pics of my more fancy coloured girls.

I definately have 2 orange girls, there is one I am still up in the air about, she looks like the other orange one did before her colour came in, so it is possible, she may be a cambodian though. Here is one of my orange beauties

And next is one that is baby blue, I think she might darken up later, but I am not sure

And for good measure, here are my new boys, Don and Guy (for those that don't know I now have 8 males, three of which are named after my late grandfathers, Bob, Don and Guy)

First is Guy,

And last but definately not least, is Don. Don is so neat looking, orange and white with irridescent blue fins.

Wow! I really like the colouring of the second guy! It reminds me of Koi.......

FishEnthusiat - Where do you get your females from so cheap? I am on the lookout for females in Canada!
And your bettas are beautifull!

I got my females at King Ed's in Burnaby, I know you are in Ontario, I don't think this is a chain store. They have the lowest prices in the Lower Mainland. You can get fancy pleco's there for $39.99, at Big Al's they are $69.99. I got my orange boy at Big Al's. I paid more for him, but I liked him a lot. I wasn't even looking for a boy for me. I saw the orange and I couldn't resist. He is finicky though, he spits out his pellets.
