Got Some Neets!

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to share my F2 Neetroplus Nematopus "Lago Nicaragua". I got 7 of them back in April of 2012 and they finally spawned at the end of December. They became free swimming a week and a half or so. They are for sure my favorite cichlid I have kept. Very fun and full of personality. I removed some fry to my 10 gal growout tank and kept some with the parents. I will remove the rest either when they get bigger or the parents need separating. Here are some videos of them. I will keep this updated as much as I can. Thanks!

I have always wanted to keep neets and do a Nicaragua biotape.
 
What sort of setup and tank mates do you have them with?

If you find some, you should get some! I would be happy to ship you some in the near future when I have some fry available but I have never shipped international and have a feeling it would very costly.
I have them in a us 55 gal. Just rocks and clay pots. I keep all of my fish in species only tanks.

Yeah that's the the reasoon I have never kept them is because I would like a cichlid community and as your aware neets are clever and no push over and my tank is only 350l and not large enough to house these feisty cichlids.
 
I will keep them one day.

Not a fan of them, all the ones i have seen are grey and boring looking, unless they turn into something spectacular?

Most juvi cichlids you see in shops are grey and drab, with these they are quite plain but in breeding mode look stunning, look very similar to a tropheus. The main plus points with these fish is there personality and character, a pair of these will not hessitste to take on a 15inch dovi which is 3 times the size.

I am not attracted by color. I am attracted by the fish and it's nature. I don't care if a fish is highly aggressive or docile. I am after exotic, uncommon, threatened, rare, and underrated  CA fish. I am after species survivial not money or who has the prettiest fish. I prefer subtle beauty fish but I care for all species. I think Neets are attractive fish in their own way. To each his own.

Calm down mate, i was just saying they are not for me, and i was wandering if they colour up nicley when they get big, they are not exactly rare, 2 of my lfs always has them here in Somerset where it is impossible to get rare fish.

I am sorry you took my response as angry or upset. I wasn't, I was just explaining why they appeal to me. . It's all good. The spawning colors are black and white. The non-spawning colors are like convicts. Here in the states they are pretty uncommon.They don't exactly have the biggest fan base. Again I am sorry for the misunderstanding.
 
I will be happy to post more videos when I get around to make some more. I am not a good picture taker.

OK mate, i'm interested to see, they do look like Tropheus in the videos you posted, they do also look like black and white Nicaraguans however you spell it lol.

They do look like tropheus and that's why they are called the poor mans tropheus. Are you refering to the Central American Cichlid hypsophrys nicaraguensis? If so, they do and they are being re-classified to the Nic family. From what I am gathering they are related to the Nic's.

The pair have spawned for the second time! Very exciting!
