Got Some Cory Eggs!

Not really expecting it but my albino corys have spawned. Found around 20 eggs stuck to the glass and some plants.

I've read a few posts but still not sure how I can tell if they are fertile.

Some seem to have white spots and other have very small black dots, they are currently around 30 hrs old.

Also how often do they spawn and is there anyway I can save more eggs? I gently removed the eggs and have placed them into a fabric hatchery with an airstone in the middle kicking out some serious air.

One last question is how many eggs do they usually spawn?

congrats on the eggs

if they are fertile ull see a black dot in the middle of them.
they can spawn once a week if feed well.
they can have up to 200+eggs at a time depending on how old and big the female is
usally its best to collect the eggs when you see them spawning to get a good batch as they do eat them.

200 EVERY week!!

OMG!!!!! I have about 80 BN at the mo ranging from 4 wk old upto 6 months old, not to mention the massive clump of eggs my male is currently sitting on...

Last thing i need is dozens of Corys!!!

No more eggs yet, yet.......

Thats a shame!! I've already started to work on 'er in doors' she'll soon come around to the idea of a tank in every room!

I really want to swap my rio 240 with a 450. It would fit in the gap perfectly!! Time will tell.

Do they drop eggs everywhere or stick them to plants etc? How can a collect them before they eat them!! I'm checking the tank everyday but not sure if i'm looking for individual eggs or big clumps. I love my corys so want to get as many as possible! I want an army!!

They don't drop the eggs, they will stick them on the side of the glass, plant and stones.

As to collecting them, I think the trick is to collect them as soon as posible ( I had 18 layed in my tank one morning, got distracted by something else for about 1/2 an hour, when I came to collect the eggs 9 had been eaten.

I think this is probly down to the maturity of the fish, younger fish wont lay as many as mature fish would. With mine (young), they lay very few. This ranges from 1 or a clump of 3. but they also are laying the eggs over a number of days.

I'm loving my tank at the mo! The fish are thriving, my plants are also good. The water stats are 0 on everything as my plants eat all the waste. Perfect balance within the closed system.

Even my 28 ltr tank in the bedroom is doing well!!

I want more tanks.......

Lol! I've got guests here and the misses is moaning as i'm constantly looking at the new arrivals and i've been asked not to start playing with the ricca!!

2mo after the f1 and when they've gone i'm gonna cover a large chunk of bogwood with it!

Come on lewis, lets bring the f1 championship home!!
