Got me a gorgeous minibow and all the fixin's. Gonna rinse it out and start set up tomorrow.
I was going to put it in a corner on the kitchen counter (you know that spot that just collects stuff). However I noticed today that the afternoon sun hits it for maybe 15-20 minutes at a angle. Do you think that would be a problem?
Would that little bit of sun heat the tank quickly?

question 2. Do you leave the light on during the day? Do the bettas mind?. It is a dark spot and I want to see my betta!

I wouldn't suggest it. First of all, putting a tank in direct sunlight is never a good idea. Even worse would be to put it in a kitchen IMO. I know that some people do keep small tanks in their kitchens, but the constantly flutuating room temp would be a concern. It would be hard to maintain your tank at a stable temperature, and you'll probably go through heaters a lot quicker since they'll have to cope with the constant changes.

Oh yeah, is it an ALL GLASS mini bow? I have the 7 gallon :D

Good point. Although the sun only touches it briefly, I hadn't thought about the general room temp fluctuating so much. It is the one place we spend a lot of time in and that's why I wanted Mr. Betta there. I will find another good place.
It is a 2.5 gal mini, I was really tempted to get a bigger one, but being a newbie I forced myself to stay small and see if I can keep this Betta healthy and alive first!
However in my mind I am already planning what to put in my 20 gal tank...heh heh heh

In answer to your light question, having a light on during the day is no problem at all, as long as they get darkness at night to "sleep". Basically tropical fish like 12hrs daylight and 12 hours dusk/night.
