I have 4 regular tiger barbs and wanted to add to the school. Went to Petsmart and they had a tiger barb variant called Platinum Tiger Barbs. I picked up 4 of them so now I will have a total of 8 Tiger Barbs. I hear they will school together just fine. Nice addition to my 29 gallon tank.

Nice :)
I've read about this variant but I've never seen any in the flesh. Normal, albino and green yes, but not platinum.

Ooh, nice, have never seen platinum barbs, a nice variant imho.

I saw a video of a tank of about 50 of these the other day and they are absolutely stunning! Looking forward to seeing how they settle in :)

Beautiful!!

I'll take a pic when they grow a bit...mine have a light bluish tint. They are a great variant. The pic I posted was from the internet.
After acclimating, they are now already schooling nicely with the regular tiger barbs.

So I'm curious, how did these tigers lose their stripes? 🤔

So I'm curious, how did these tigers lose their stripes? 🤔
Tiger barbs naturally exhibit three striping phenotypes: complete, incomplete, and half banded. Line breeding phenotypes and pigment mutations such as amelanism lead to new varieties such as 'albino' tiger barbs in the case of the amelanistic variety. With platinum tiger barbs, someone bred a phenotype mutation that had the stripes cover the whole body and a shift in pigment to green, and then eventually a mutation was seen in green tiger barbs that resulted in platinum tiger barbs.
