I was wondering if anybody had an idea of a good website that can show me local fish breeders. I live in Illinois and I can't find a good website that can get me fish ALOT cheaper from breeders and stuff. I was looking for bala sharks, silver dollars, arowanas, tinfoil barbs, but i can't find and cheap ones that are around 5-7 in. Please help me. Thanks, Alex

Those aren't very commonly bred fish, best bet is asking on the GCCA site if you are in northern Illinois; http://www.gcca.net/

Also check out http://www.aquabid.com/ However, its caveat emptor there. Some sellers are quite reputable while others are the exact opposite.

Also check out the Boester's site http://www.boesterscichlids.com/about.htm

Tolak- are you familiar with a local guy out there who was and may still be a cory (and other fish) breeder and currently is a wholesaler. His Ssreen name is Fishnut2 and his real name is Rich S. he live near the airport (Midway i believe not O'Hare). I got my first F1 fiish from him in 2001.

Aquabid is a good site as long as you keep an eye on buyer feedback. Boester's a reliable guy, you'll run into several like him through GCCA.

TTA; yea, I know Rich, have gotten fish from him, sold him worms, we go back quite a ways. Most recently he's getting into cichlids with GCCA, I should give him a call just to see what he's up to. He used to do a lot of importing, I blew off a day of work a few years back to give him a hand with a 22 styro transship. Pickup just a few blocks from his house, Midway is right there.
