I have been wanting to get another fish for my 100G tank that houses a 3 inch JD and GT(both male). They have been togehter for about 6 months and live together great....I was wondering what other cichlid or fish in genral would be a good add in my tank? My tank heavyly planted and has lots of caves. Any suggestions would be great. thank you

I would think with that size of tank I would add a Black Belt cichlid, H. maculicauda or H. synspilum. Both will easily reach ten inches long and are not more or less aggressive than the fish you already have.

I'd go for something smaller and feisty. Convict perhaps? Firemouth? Hmm maybe too small. To get anything big you'd probably need a larger tank. Especially a synspilum or one of the other giants.

I agree that a convict or firemouth would be a good addition. If you put a couple of one of the species it should help even out any aggression. Not a breeding pair however as this would cause more problems, but maybe like 2 or three female convicts or firemouths I would think would work ok. Might be a little overstocked to some but if it is heavily planted then it should be enough strata to break up their lines of sight to stem normal aggression.

But then again, just those two would make a beautiful tank. Eventually they will begin to sparr a little to see who is gonna be king of the tank, and whoever wins will make a beautiful mature male with their coloration and big hump.

There's not really enough room in there for an oscar. Oscars need an absolute minimum of 55g for one fish on it's own. Some say 75g. As a GT will get very big too, and there's already a JD in there, there is no room for another big cichlid - especially not one that reaches up to 16" and poos for England ;)

Silver dollars would be nice though - depending on your cichlids, as they can be a bit skittish at feeding time, and if your cichlids are nervous or shy it could be a bit scary for them. They scared the crap out of my oscar

:good: not to sound like I am just agreeing with everything Lisa says lately but again, I do agree :good:

Alternativly a couple of different fish to whats already been quoted above, you could try a Salvini, Sajica or Blue Acara, ive housed my JD & GT with those fish before without any problems.

when GTs get big they turn lazy, my big one in my avatar, he lays about msot of the time, hes really lazy, and hes in a massive show tank with Perciei(?) red devil, sajicon, chocolate cichlids and the like, try some of them ?
