spotted these on ebay as I was looking for a pleco for my tank

is £15 an ok price for them? Hope so as I've got him holding four for me!well two for me and two for my friend, Lives close to me too so no postage which will keep costs down :) thought we could have two each and within that try to get a male and female.

Probably a really daft question but these fish are obviously all from the same parents so can they breed or is it not advisable to breed from male and female from same parents? I probably won't manage to get them to breed anyway as they will be in a community tank (and i'll probably end up with all 4 the same sex knowing my luck!!) but planning just incase!

would two be ok in my 240l community tank?

Any thoughts on this buy would be appreciated :)

very nice, no idea on the price tho.. white zebs are silly money tho

if they are all from the same batch, you wouldnt want to breed from them anyway.. thats where AC or similar sites might come in handy, swap stock, fresh blood, and of course if they do all end up to be the same sex then you could ad for what you need :)

they are common im my lfs, they sell for £45.....so you had a bargain! will they breed? havent a clue, im guessing not, unless you have paired them off and the tank is setup spot on for breeding.

most plecos are very hard to get spawning to be honest, but the bn is probably the easiest.

The price is ok, ive known other private breeders sell them for a tenner each, these are still babies, you will probably be looking at 2 years plus before there even close to breeding age and thats if you manage to breed them after that.

they can be bred together from same parents but advisable not to, the fry could be potentially week and have a far less success rate of survival.

2 would be fine within the240l, but these are hypan species and prefer to be in high temps, ideally low 80's which your current fish may not be suitable for.

well if it's going to be two years before they are at breeding age I have a while before I'll have to even think about that! :)

My tank is already set at 27degrees for the rams so hopefully that temp will be ok for them.

picking up four of them next saturday so really pleased, looking into what to feed them on now so I'm all ready for them!

Anyone able to point me in the right direction?

There a carnivorous species so plenty of meaty/protein foods, things like prawn, bloodworm, shrimp, muscles with a good quality sinking pellet food. They don't tend to eat veg matter but it's always a good option to add just incase they do eat it.

will they be ok with mainly sinking pellets and maybe once/twice weekly fresh? not sure I've gone for the right ones here was really looking for a plec to help with my algae!! obviously not this one!

I was thinking of getting a black ghost knife fish will they eat the same sort of things that i'll need to feed him? also thinking about getting a night led moon light (not the right name I know but you know what I mean!) will that help me see them more or will they still be shy?

Sorry one last question will they leave my plants alone? I presume they will id they are carnivorous!

Thanks again for the help

As long as the pellets are of the meatier variety then yes but alternating the foods is far better, the foods mentioned above should be varied, yes you can use something like tetra prima as a staple diet but other foods really need to also be given, veg as i mentioned in an earlier post probably wont get touched, putting it in 'incase' should be done.

They don't generally eat plants and they wont eat algae.

To the BGKF, i really couldn't answer, i presume they need a meat based diet aswell so as long as it does yes they would probably eat the same foods, apart from that i couldn't help you out there, have no experience whatsoever with them. What im sure of though, 240litres isn't big enough to house a BGKF for life.
