Hey all:

I had a lot of fun with a saltwater 55 gallon more than 25 years ago, and as my Jack Dempseys eventually will outgrow the 55 freshwater I now have, I'll either pick up a 90 gallon for the JDs and convert the 55 to saltwater, or I'll sell the JDs and convert the 55. Or, if I get a wild enough hair up my ***, I might just get the 90, rehome the JDs, and go completely to saltwater.

Anyway, that's quite some time in the future, if I do make the move, and meanwhile I'm looking for a solid in-depth saltwater aquarium how-to guide. Surely I'll post Qs in here about specific things if I turn saltie, but I can't take you folks to bed with a glass of wine in the evening now, can I?

The Saltwater Aquarium Handbook is a good first step. If you are doing a reef (which I suggest you plan on now) the next step is Reef Invertebrates by Calfo and Fenner. After that I would get books more specific to what you plan on keeping. Another great one is Aquarium Corals by Borneman.

Good idea to start off with books but also read the journals and resource threads as the info in their is more true to home if you know what I mean!

Look forward to seeing your progress!

:hi: to the salty side of the forum - we might not be able to hop into bed with you but you can take your laptop and the journels etc :good: I spent many an evening in bed with a nice bottle of red, my laptop and TFF salty section.

The books already mentioned are a good selection and I also like anything by Michael Scott.

Looking forward to watching your progress

Thanks, folks. Really it depends on budget. My heart lies on the salty side, but I currently have a tropical wallet. Same old, same old.

We'll see how things go.

Meanwhile, I've got a new book coming, and a new forum to make sheep's eyes over.
