A world of my own
We've heard all about terrible fish shops, terrible advice and all that.

I think its high time we talk about the GOOD shops. Provide an address to show your support for them and so that other people nearby can go there too!

P.T.

Big Al's on Centennial Parkway in Stoney Creek/ Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Lots of selection, and a few good staff (some snotty, but I avoid them)

in the UK Maidenhead Aquatics. I've been to their shops in Aylesbury, and Maidenhead, and they're both very good. Helpful staff and good selection of healthy fish!!

5th Day Aquatics in Plymouth, Uk

They are the only store in Plymouth that have nice fish, nice attitudes and a 7 year-old catfish named Eric that greets you as you walk in (He must be at least 3 foot long) :D

Emperor Tropicals is another good one in Plymouth, I got my neons and my rainbows from there, and the guy who serves you normally won't let you buy anything until he knows it's going to a good home and won't destroy every other living creature in your tank :p

You can check out their website here.

Also another one I went to the other day in Camborne was Trimar Aquatics. It had an unusually large selection of marine fish which is unusual for fish shops in the SW of England. I don't keep marine but I love to browse when I go into shops :D It also has a huge selection of tanks which is really well set out. (Ignore how bad the website is obviously the guy who made it has more experience with fish than web design!)

I haven't been to 5th Day in Plymouth yet but my b/f went there the other day and he said it was awesome

EDIT: There is also a relatively new fish shop called The Fish Tank on Old Laira Bridge road (We went on a mission once to visit all the fish shops in Plymouth!), they had green neon tetras which I had never seen before and I would love but I don't have room in my tank for any at the moment.

Exotic Underworlds

Savannah, GA

Love 'em!!!!

I didn't really rate this place although i haven't bought anything and have only browsed. The staff weren't very helpful when i asked about shrimps, all i got was "I don't know if we've got any" and then wandered off to the depths of the shop.
There was also a few dead fish in a couple of tanks that looked like they'd been there a while :(

Aww it's a shame you got a negative impression from them, the young bloke who nets the fish out for you can be offhand I'll give you that but he does know his stuff. I've been there quite a few times and they mainly seem quite responsible and the fish I bought from them were very healthy and still are :)

Well they did have some very nice Green Tiger Barbs which caught my eye :)
Maybe i'll go back at a quieter time and see. I have to admit when i first went to 5th Day i wasn't that impressed (till i left :) )
It certainly helps knowing someone who's had fish from there who recommends them.

Thanks.

Andy has been in the busines for 30 years and will not sell you stuff you don't need
he always ask what size tank you have and how long you've had it and what is in it now, before selling you any fish, as do his staff Adam and Duncan :D

I used others near me but they are the best :D

I've found maidenhead aquatics to be expensive
e.g
£4.00ea for giant danios
£3.85ea for golden white cloud minnow
thats like 250% above average in my area.

Hmmm there are a few around here.

These are all the ones I frequent with the odd visit to pets at home (once again they have let me down, I got 6 fish from them on Friday and early hours of the morning today I got back home from the pub, looked at the tank and found one of my new swordtails dead in one of the plants - I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of taking it back to I just buried it in the garden.)

I'm just glad to be able to spread some love about an lfs as opposed to what people on here normally do ;) My home is about an hour away from Plymouth too so they were obviously strong enough to survive the journey home (I'm a student at the university so I live there during term time, hoping to move there next year!) :D It's often quite busy in Emperor Tropicals, I think you have to pick your time if you do go in :)

EDIT: They also have a policy where if your fish dies within a certain time you can return the dead fish for a refund or replacement. I think you have to take a sample of your water in so they can test it too.

Wet pets & Lily Pad
1164 Grand Ave. Arroyo Grande, CA

Joe owns Wet pets and it was it's own store for a really long time. (tropical and sw fish)
And his wife, Shari, owned Lily Pad, (goldfish and ponds)

Then like 6 years ago they merged together and it's one big beautiful store. HUGE STORE.

Then there is Cd's Pet Emporium which is a half a block away. They have a nice fish section but are more into non-swimming pets.
