Anyone have recommendations on good fish "guide books"? I saw Axelrod's Atlas of Freshwater fishes at bookstore the other day.... lots of good pics but seemed to be lacking in detailed information. Something out there that maybe doesn't cover as many species but has more detailed info?

I have the book you are refering to, its an excellent book, but if you are looking for more info on particular types of fish, the Aqualog books are hard to beat and are very widely used by fish shops in Ireland. The authors are German but they are very well translated and have superb pics and lots of detailed info.
The Baensch series are simply the best in the world but are similar to the Axlerod book in that they give very condensed but very helpful info for each species.
