I recently got a gift card for Aquatic Arts, and wanted to set up a paludarium for some Vampire Crabs.

I was wondering if having 2 or 3 Endlers in the tank would be okay with them. I was going for a 20 gallon long, with 5 in of water, with rocks and whatnot rising about 2 inches above. I was going to use an external heat pad set to around 75.

What are some good plants for above and below water? I am looking for low maintenance plants for above water, and fast growing densely planted aquatic plants. I was thinking guppy grass, pearl weed, hornwort.

The crabs will eat the fish...they'll wait until it's dark and sneak up on them.

A book I have, "Encyclopedia of Aquarium Plants", by Peter Hiscock, has a great section on a paludarium.
Plants used are;
  1. Acorus gramineus var. pusillus, (Dwarf Japanese rush)
  2. Anubias lanceolata, (Narrow-leafed anubis)
  3. Cryptocoryne spp.
  4. Anubis barteri var. nana
  5. Lysimacha nummularia, (Creeping Jenny)
  6. Microsorium pteropus, (Java fern)
  7. Ophiopogon japonicus 'Variegatus', (Variegated fountain plant).
  8. Spathiphyllum wallisii, (Peace lily)
  9. Synogonium podophyllum, (Stardust ivy).

Thank you! I was hoping the fish would be fast enough, but oh well. Thank you for the plant list, I will see what amazon and my lfs have (or can order).
