my convict is on layin eggs on a piece ov slate :hyper:

now she in a community tank and i think left they will all get eaten, so is it ok if i move the slate into a empty tank, or could i put a plastic livebear trap over slate with a rock ontop to protect them???

help greatly apreciated
 
Leave them with the parents. They will look after the eggs and fry for the first few weeks. Then you can syphon the young out and rear them up. On top of that if you do rear all the young you will have hundreds of baby convicts to get rid of. There aren't many shops willing to buy or accept that many young cichlids.

Lots of cichlids have no idea about rearing their young and quite often this has been brought about by breeders taking the eggs away from the parents. The young are grown up without parental supervision and as such they become bad parents themselves. Cichlids that have been artificially reared generally eat their eggs and young.
