I have a beautiful veil tailed goldfish who I have had for over 4 years. He now has fin rot and I need some advice about how to help him.

His right pectoral fin has almost competely eroded away and the joint is very red and inflammed. I added interpet fin rot treatment on Sunday when I first noticed the problem but it does not appear to have worked. The fin has now almost completely gone. I have also added some salt and two doses (so far) of melafix.

Is there anything else I can do for him in the next couple of days as I am going on holiday this weekend so time is not on my side.

Despite all of this he seems well in himself and is swimming and eating normally at the moment.

Thanks! Any advice much appreaciated!

Need more info.
Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
If the fins is red forget the finrot med and move onto internal bacteria med by interpet.

Well I had to go on hols and hope for the best. I left my Mum with a big bottle of melafix to adminster daily. When I got back his wound had almost healed. Redness has gone but he has no fin. Can he live with only one front fin? He seems to be coping and swimming ok.
