Hi,

Last year my Goldfish spawned and three of them survived. I just saw that one of them is behaving strangely in the pond. It is swimming strangely and only using the front fins for swimming. I took it out and have put it into a quarantine tank. It seems like it has lost control of its back part of the body as I see absolutely no movement of back fins or body. The video is available below. Any help in diagnosis/cure will be appreciated.

I'm sorry for your goldfish and you as it doesn't look good for it. I would strongly suspect that some how the goldfish has suffered a rather severe bump or knock. Its looking a bit slim so it may have been having difficulty for some time. Even a cat or heron might have tried grabbing it and missed causing the paralisis you can now see.
I would take the other goldfish out of the tank as the uninjured one as it is able to knock the other one around just by swimming near it. I would definantly put an airstone in the tank with the ill goldfish and if possible some filteration but it will need to be gentle. Putting sinking foods in the tank that the poor thing can get should enable it to fed, and then I am sorry to say it is a waiting game.
Fish have amazing powers of rejuvination a fact best supported by scientists that (rightly or wrongly) have been breaking danio's backs to figure out how they are able to regenerate spinal function and continue to swim and have relatively normal lives. I am by no means condoning this science but the fact is it is out there and being done. I am using it simply as an example of how resilient fish can be.
Because of a fishes ability to over come many handicaps if kept otherwise healthy and given time they can come good again. You could also add some broad spectrum medications to the tank in case your gold fish is suffering from a viral or baterical infection.Of course if your goldfish can not fed and is continuing to get worse I would think euthanasia is the only other course of action. Sorry I can't be of more help or give you better news.

Thank you for your reply. I suspected that it seems to be paralyzed and wanted to make sure that it is not a case of swim bladder disease. We are going to euthanise it today (clove oil) as it seems that it has been suffering from it for some time now.
Thank you again.
