Hi
I'm cycling a 45g tank to move my loaches and red finned shark into. The guy at the lfs said to put 2 goldfish in to speed up the process. Just want to confirm this is ok. Next spring the goldfish can go in the outside pond, but will the other fish harm them meanwhile? Grateful for any suggestions.

Goldfish are coldwater fish,
ergo they cannot go into a tropical tank.

Additionally goldfish can carry some bacteria that is
harmless to themselfs but devistating to tropical fish.

The-Wolf is exactly right, goldfish and tropcals have different needs. Temperature is just one. Goldfish, being so large, consume a lot more oxygen than tropicals. They also need a lot more filtration and current, which most tropicals don't like.

Mixing the two is not a good idea, IMO.

Thanks
Glad I asked now!! Will use some of my glowlights like last time.

If you have another tank why not just move some filter media to the new tank or run your new filter on the old tank for a few days? You'll have an instant cycle and you can start adding fish slowly straight away - plus no cycling casualties...
