Okay so I bought a black moor goldy a couple of days ago and my boyfriend picked her out so I didn't really examine the fish before I brought him home. I added him to my 120 gallon which has sand substrate and he quickly was sucking up the sand and spitting it back out and just playing in the sand like crazy! I examined him but didn't really see anything as the white patch on his side was covered with sand particles. I scooped him out and put him in a 10 gallon for now by himself. I have been treating him with salt and that is about it.

Yesterday the white patch started to get smaller and it is smaller even today, but I realized he has 2 white cloudy spots on one of his eyes and a larger spot on his other eye. Is there ANYTHING I can do for him? I've been feeding him peas regularly so he doesn't get swim bladder or anything like that. He eats sinking pellets and fish flake that I soak in water before feeding him.

:dunno: What should I do? There are some pictures of him below. These only show the white patch when I first noticed it. It is about half the size of that now, but now he has white spots on his eyes. :-(

It could be ich but its hard to tell. what solution is the salt at? you could try raising the salt to .3% and see if this helps him. goldies arent very compatable with fine sand as it can clog the gills as they like to root around.
also you could try adding a heater and raising it to around 80f and see if that gets rid of the spots.

Well I was told to lower his temp so the temp is around 68-70 F right now. I just did an 80% water change for him and I am using doctor well's aquarium salt and it says it is 100% evaporated sea salt with no additives.

I just added some more salt and added one of those nitra-zorb bags into the filter. I sure hope he gets okay. Do you think he would do better in a 30 gallon instead of the 10 gallon? Or should I treat him in the smaller tank and then put him in the 30 gallon when he gets better? :dunno:

Oh and I don't think it is ick because it isn't tiny white spots all over the body. It is one white patch about a half inch in length and it is only on one side. :dunno:

Sorry, i thought you were needing help with the spots on the eyes.
Blackmoores are very prone to having grey patches appear on the skin, mainly because the colour of he fish shows them up easier. Salt in the water is really good as it helps to clear it up as it is usually a reaction to either water conditions or a parasite. As it seems to be getting smaller then keep him in the 10 gallon and see how he goes, maybe he needs to have the tank salted permanently to help his slime coat.
What is his ph level at?

The PH is at around 7.2 right now, is that okay?

Oh, I needed help treating the eyes as well. Not sure if I should try the ick meds in there or if it may be cataracts? :dunno: They are rather small and aren't really blocking his vision. They are mainly on the lower part of the eye. I don't want to take any pics as I don't know if the spots on the eyes will even show up. :dunno:

EDIT: He was previously kept in a small tank with about 30 different goldfish and then was moved to another tank that had aggressive cichlids in it. Maybe he got it there? I put him in the 120 gallon when I first got him home for about a day so I hope he didn't transfer it to any of the fish in there. All of my fish in my 120 gallon seem to be doing REALLY well.

He is pooing right now and it is a REALLy light brown...not white but it looks kind of white but with a brown tint. REALLY light brown. Could this be a problem?

I am now treating for ick as I spotted more white dots along the body and a few on the eyes. Hope Toggle gets better.

I thught it looked like ich. follow what i said and use the salt as a treatment to see if that works and raise the temp to 80f slowly. for the salt, add 1 level teaspoon per gallon to get .1%. then 12 hours later do the same again and again another 12 hours later to get .3%. do gravel vacs every 3 days to get rid of eggs and remember to add temp matched water with 3 level teaspoons per gallon. you can keep him at .3 for a couple of weeks then slowly reduce the salt.

Okay thanks a lot. He seems to be doing fine I mean he swims around normally and hasn't lost his appetite so hopefully he will pull through.

The white patch on his side is really fading and the spots on his eyes are getting duller. :D
