Hellooooo!
Well, I'm still new with fishkeeping. A year ago my cousin gave me his old 5 gallon and my uncle gave me his filter, pump, and heater he no longer uses. My dad mentioned to my other uncle that I was gonna get fish, and my uncle offered 4 of his piranha's food. So I saved the lives of four feeder goldfish. One of them died about a week later and I buried her in the backyard. But the other three are still alive. A few months ago I got two algae eaters because the tank had a huge algae problem. My dad found a ten gallon at a garage sale and bought it for $3 with a power filter and a heater (well I don't use the heater). A few weeks ago I got a black moor as a present. So now my ten gallon is stocked with two common, one comet (or is there a difference?), one black moor goldfish, and two algae eaters. The goldfish are all about 1.5 to 2 inches now (without the caudal fin)and the algae eaters are about as long.
To be honest by the time my 5gallon was ready for fish, I didn't want to start with goldfish as I had done research and by then knew they would need a huge tank. But I felt so bad for the feeder fish in my uncle's piranha's tank. I hoped he would only give me one or two too. Now I've grown pretty attached to them. Well, I kind of want to get rid of the algae eaters. I'm looking for any of my friends who are willing to take them (each) but right now none of them are willing to. I don't want to kill them or let them go in the lake though.
And for the goldfish, I found this empty 26 gallon Rubbermaid plastic tub in a storage room in my basement. I'm planning on making it into sort of an indoor tub pond. Neither of my parents are willing to spend money for a gallon appropriate for the goldfish (40 or 50g, is that right?) and I don't have a job (my parents won't let me get one) so I won't get to save up for one until about a year or two from now. A 26g is better than a 10g, right? Would the goldfish be okay in there for that long until I can save up? I'm really scared about stunting. And what else can I do about my algae eaters? Would the goldfish be shocked when all of a sudden all they see is black? I usually sit in front of the tank and talk to them .. And their tank is in the living room so I guess they're used to people? Also, when I move the goldfish to the tub, I want to make the ten gallon into a coldwater community tank. What kinds of fish can I put in there?
Thank you!
