Well i bought 2 Golden Snails both quite big about 1.5inch in diamiter

anyway after about 4 days one died the shell floated to the surface anyway i left it there for 2 days just incase it wasnt dead

but its trapdoor thingy fell off and in the bin went the snail shell which started to lose its golden colour.

well now it seems we have 3 new mini snails in our tank these guys are very very small like 2-3 MM in size

so how can this have happend . where have they come from

and how many babies do a Golden Snail have? can we expect to find more mini snails or is 3 the end of them?
my g/f thinks there cute so thats good

Snails can end up in your tank hitching a ride on plants you may have bought. Otherwise, maybe the two you had did the do, and one of them laid eggs. Check above the waterline for a nest and remove it if you find it. Snails are lovely, I have one myself, but they multiply fast and can take over your tank.

The one whose trapdoor fell off would be definately dead to do that, the 3 small snails are mostly likely another species which came into your tank somehow (often by plants) which is quite a common thing to happen, can you describe their appearance?

once a snail is old enought and get pregnant its fertile for life and will keep on producing more babie snail. tho i dont know much about golden snails this may be the case tht she is already fertile and will be able to keep reproducing on her own... or they might just have come in with a diff batch of plants

i know when i had a snail it tryed its hardest 2 overpopulate my tank with more babie snails i had 2 remove like 50 so in the end i got rid of them all tho i sill find a few small 1's

Golden apple snails reproduce differently from most other common aquarium snails by laying their eggs above the water line on a smooth surface- you need both a male and a female snail for them to reproduce (its also posible to tell the genders apart with apple snails, unlike most other snails where it is near impossible).

The eggs are a pale orangey color and to hatch they must be kept dry- i've never bothered to hatch my apple snails eggs properly in the past though so i am not certain how long they take to hatch, however, i am sure most people would notice them in their tanks as they are quite obvious things.
