Golden Nugget Pleco

ok so I bought one of these today as I have always always wanted one. I seen 2 in my lfs and had to buy 1. how hard are these to actually keep? also what did everybody pay for theres? mines is only an inch or so.

I paid £25 pounds for 3-4inches.

They are not hard to keep but can be aggressive to others plecs especially to their own kind. If yours is eating I would not worry most of the talk about them being hard to keep has come from when they have had a hard time in transport and have sunken bellies etc

There is 3 types

Baryancistrus sp. (L018) Normal spot Can grow to 14" but over 8inchs is rare in a home aquarium
Baryancistrus sp. (L177) Big spot 8inch
Baryancistrus sp. (L081) Small spot 8inch

I bought mine for £16.50, was that an ok price? I have seen them elsewhere at £30 and stuff so I thought I was getting a good deal.


Also how do you know which one is what?

The spots. some have big then 1 had medium sized then one has very small spots
They are very slow growers I believe so might not reach their maximum size

i baught this chap yesterday. Very brightly coloured L018. About 3''+ for £15 from my lfs

That kinda looks like a L081 mate spots are small

Here my L018 unless I have the bigspot one lol L177 Second opinions people??
