Hi all, yesturday i went to the shop, and picked up a golden nugget, which was abt 3 inches head to tail.

he was fine, but abit quiet last nite before i went to bed, and wen i woke up he was dead! :rip:

I immediately got the tester kits out, and started testing the water, but all the parameters are fine, and all say suitable connditions for fish.

PH = 8.0 (Blue)

Ammonia = 0 mg/l (Light Green)

NO2 = 0.3 mg/l (orange)

NO3 = Between 12.5 and 25 mg/l (orange)

If all of these are right, and i floated him in the bag just the way your meant to, then got a net and got him out of the bag to move him into the tank, surely ive done everything rite ?

Does any1 know wot happened to him ?

Update: ive just foned the lfs where i got him, and hes sed that i should take the body, and some tank water down to him, and he will test it, and if its all ok he will replace the fish. but im still unsure of how he died!

sounds like you did everything right.
I guess these things happen, Maybe the stress was all to buch for the poor fish.

It's unfortunate, but sometimes these things do happen and it's not necessarily anyone's fault.

Your PH seems a bit high - I agree with Oddball that you should compare with your lfs. Gold nuggets prefer a neutral ph and yours is quite alkaline.

Hmmm, well ive just got back from the lfs, and they have sed that golden nuggets dont like the water i get here, so he exchanged for sum silver sharks. which i wud av got soon, so i guess its all worked out ok.

Yes unfortunately the person who sold you the plec should have informed you that Baryancistrus species require soft acidic water and dont tolerate hard alkeline conditions well at all. This is also true of many of the other more exotic plec species so care should be taken to research whether one will besuitable for your tank and its water parameters.
