Please help. I just added 3 golden Malabar Danios on Thurs. Just now they started swimming very fast around(10 gal quarntine). Also their mouths are moving very fast. Anyone have any ideas??

Please post:
Ammonia
Nitrite
Nitrate
PH

Filter
Air Pump??

Last water change.

That will help give an idea of what is wrong.

water specs were all normal on Wed. I haven't test today. Also I had 3 rosy barbs in it on Wed which I traded for the Danios. (Well the LFS took the Barbs, and I bought the Danios). I do not have an airstone but I do have a filter with bio sponge and carbon filter media.

Are there any plants in the tank? And how is your surface agitation? I know that breathing hard is a sign of low oxygen, that is why I asked about the pump.

As for fast moving, that is just danios.

"EDIT" I'm guessing no on the plants since it's a quarantine tank.

there are many causes of gasping in fish
1) Bacterial gill disease
2) Viral infection
3) Branchiomyces (gill rot)
4) Gill parasites (flukes)

I'd do a 50% water change and add airation to the tank, also If the gills seem inflamed or red then I'd say gill flukes and treat for that if not then it is more than likly the bacterial gill disease and I'd treat with a broad range anti-bacterial medication.
for a quick help you can do a salt bath on the danios.
2 tablespoons of table salt per 5 gallons of water, dip the danios in this solution for 10 seconds and then return to the main tank. you can repete this process every 4 hrs, if you wish to.
Good luck and keep us posted :)
