 We have a 200ltr tank and have at present, 6 Corydoras and 4 Golden Gouramis. We have 3 females and 1 male Gouramis, should we even the ratio up a little? I've read somewhere that it should be 1 male for every 2 females, is this correct?

Get one more male and one more female.

This will give you more of a chance of them breeding.

The less males you have in the tank, the less aggression you will have.
If you are happy with just 4, then don't worry about adding any more.
Having three females to one male is absolutely fine.

i have 3 females to one male with my dwarf gouramis and they are perfectly happy and when the male makes the bubble nest he takes all 3 females under and mates with them all so i get lots of eggs
my gouramis havent stopped breeding since i added the 3rd female

Aggression is only upto the males personality.

I have 3 pearl gourami males who follow each other in a 120 litre. They don't fight, they live together perfectly with no aggression.

Pearl Gouramies are one of the more peaceful ones and generally make good community fish.
Moonlight, Gold, Blue and Opaline tend to be more aggressive so the less males, the less aggression.

Again depends on the males personality.
We could argue all day but the vast majority of people who keep too many males end up with aggression issues.
The first tank I set up was a 180ltr Gourami tank with at least 2-3 females to each male. They lived fine together until they started to mature, then they would constantly nip and chase each other.

Most people will go for that rule. 3 females to one male but i don't as i've had alot of sucess with two males together.

I was told yesterday at our LFS that maybe we've got more males than we thought, apparently they don't develop their dorsal fins until they're mature, is that right? We,ve got one that has a definate pointed dorsal and there's one with aslightly pointed one but the others look more rounded. They have all coloured up since we got them which was two weeks ago. They're beautiful.

Any aggresive behavior. If there isn't then your fine.
