Hi all my golden apples shell is slowly disintegrating its gone from a lovly golden yellow to a very very washed out yellow / white colour and the small curl in the center has bits missing out of it.

now all my other fish are doing fine in the tank is there anything i can do to help this guy out an save there life / shell or is there nothing we can do ?

he's about 1.5inch in diamiter so hes not just a small snail.

thanks

I was thinking of some nice snails for my tank, but my soft, acidic water would not be to their liking. If your water is similar to mine you could try the snailshop, they do a Calcium additive for the water, but I have no idea how good it is. Try posting your problem on the invertibrates section of this forum, you should get more expert help.

Hi,

It sounds to me like you dont have enough calcium in the water to sustain his shell strength and that is why his shell is rotting away. I have the same problem and I have to dose my tank with Liquid Calcium. I got mine from Ebay and a Calcium test kit as well to make sure I wasnt overdosing. I have heard that you can paint the affected area with a little nail varnish to try and seal the holes, HOWEVER I have never tryed this so I dont know if it works or not. Try Reposting this in the Invertebrates section you may get a much better response in there.

I hope you manage to save him,

Richard.

If you put the snails in a tank of their own with some cuttle fish bone or other calium addative it will help them.
