golden algae eaters

I'm not sure myself, but try posting this in cyprinids and characins. Golden Algae eater is one of the asian algae eater, and thus is more a loach than a catfish really . . .

Definitely NOT otocinclus.

That, is a beautiful specimen of Gyrinocheilus aymonieri, or Chinese Algae Eater. Like I said, more of a loach than a catfish. Careful, they'll grow up to 8" and become aggressive as it ages, especially against slow moving flat bodied fish. You're gouramis might be in danger one day . . . anyway, I have no idea how to sex them. :D

lol whats he gonna do? suck of them? lol

Don't joke . . . yeah he'll suck, can suck the fish's protective mucus/scales/flesh right off. It can be really damaging. Anyway, there should be less problem with more room.

Hi,

I had a 15g tank and was sold 2 gold algea eaters (aka Chinese algea eaters). I soon realised what a mistake I had made.

Oh yes they started out cute and funny to watch. They seemed to mix well with my silver tipped tetras and platies. At this point they were very small, about 1" but they soon started to grow. Even at 2" they started bullying the other fish. They even started on each other. At this point I found out that they could potentially grow to 10" (way to big for my tank) and that they could kill my other fish. I gave them back quick smart.

They need a big tank. Never again.
