I purchased a Gold Spot Moray Eel today from my LFS and would like to know if anyone has any information about them or has one. I read up on freshwater Morays before buying him but canot find any references to a 'Gold Spot' variety??

I do not have a picture yet but he is .........well...a gold colour and about 10 inches long..

Thanks

Does it look like any of these pics. From the sounds of it, it may be a "snowflake eel" - Gymnothorax Tile...

Try This...
Or This...
Or Maybe this...

I fed mine frozen Krill shrimp, ghost shrimp and feeder guppies. Unfortunatelty I bought mine before I learned about cycling and lost him after about a month. He was super cool to watch, and fed mostly at night.

One of the key things is to be sure to have PLENTY of hiding places. They spend most of the day hiding (which is a bummer) but they won't be comfortable without them.

FW morrays are not really freshwater and like shark catfish need increasing ammounts of salt added to the aquarium as they grow, the fish you have bought will already be a sub adult and should be converted to brackish water as soon a possible. This time of year must be the season for collecting FW morrays from the wild because all the shops seem to have them in stock, unfortunately i doubt many will still be alive this time next year.
If you convert your morray to brackish water then good tankmates are sharkcats, scats and monos all of which require similar treatment as inn they bennefit from more salt being added as they grow until going into full marine conditions.
