:good: Hello, First off i have just cycled my 65gallon tank, and transfered all inhabitants.
12 Rasboras, 4 Platys, That's it I had a 6 month old reg pelco who recently passed away. He stoped eating, developed Ich and fungus! But he passed in my old tank. not the new one thank goodnes.
In any case i am looking to aquire a L001 Gold Spoted Pelco. My LFS has a batch on sale at 4.99 each! A great store but the fish are like 3 inc. Very small and young. I am purchasing some drift wood at the same time. Are these stable fish when they are young. Or any special care requirements? I know the can be agresive. Diet? Max 1 foot? 30cm. Have a cave setup for him. And am aranging some Java moss. Sandy substrate. Is this ok? Any experience would be great thanks for the input.

hi,

I've had my L001 since he was about 1.5-2", he is now knocking on the door of 10" they dont normally grow much bigger than 10".

As for aggression I see none from mine, although it is not in a tank with any other plecs. L001's (Glyptoperichthys joselimaianus) are in fact the same family as the whopping Sailfins/Gibby, but they grow to a more manageable size for the more common sized tanks.

I feed my cucumber halves, catfish pellets and prawns, and occasionally he gets some fish slices as he is in the tank with some predator fish which need the meat. He will also graze the wood for the organisms such as algae that may form on the bogwood, I rarely see him on the glass though.

A very nice looking plec, when they are in a good mood they have stunning gold markings.

Thanks Alot..
Sounds like L001 will suit me, my tank and my budget. I was Just nervouse about the sise and the diet. But that sounds easy enuff. What about a sandy substrate is this acceptable? and Java moss will he attack it? any help would be great thanks. Not the best Glass cleaner eh?? Rats!

sand will be great. it should be fine with java moss. As for glass cleaning plecs, you wont get one thats your job :good:

predominantly veggie based diet and a cycled tank and it will be fine.

3 inch is plenty big enough, will be tank (or pond) bred so near enough bulletproof, compared to WC

What are you talking about?
I believe mike is simply telling the OP the diet which the pleco feeds on, that 3 inches if plenty big to be brought home, the fish will be tank or pond raised so it will be a lot hardier than wild caught fish. Sounds like good advice to me.

I'm impressed you got all that from the mix of words put together in an incoherent sentence. and in my ignorance I looked at WC and thought why would you compare a fish to a water closet (WC) aka toilet, lol :hyper:

Lol, you are having a good day Drew exactly what i meant, or perhaps someone else is having a bad one ;)

yeah I'm probably having the bad one, so tired as the Girl Friend put prison break on last night and then fell a sleep, but stupid me stayed up to watch several episodes. As I've not seen them all, so I'm knackered today, everyone here keeps saying i look shattered lol. So look like I'm gonna have to watch all 3 series or how ever many she has now, and I bought heroes over the weekend and I want to watch that too... when will I get anything done :D
